Hey there!

I wanted to write a post telling you guys a little bit of my expirence here in America. First of all I need to say thanks to my parents for giving me this opportunity that no everyone can have. This 6 months have gone so quickly and I can't belive I only have a few days left. I came here to improve my english because I've always had my future plans so clear, I want to work as a translator and interpreter.
I came here on December  17th so excited with my mum but when she left after two weeks, the experience had now begun. I hated and I still hate waking up at 5:10 every single day to go to school, the first month I thought I was going to die! But it sounds weird but I really like going to school, it is very different.

Classes: when the bell rings we have to go to homeroom. This room is a classroom where you have to stay just for 10 min and it is to know who is at school and who is being late. After those 10 min doing nothing the bell rings again and you have 4 min between classes to go to your next class that sometimes it is so far away and you have to 'run'... I love the way of teaching here. The teacher writes the agenda of the day on the board so you know what you are going to do that day in class and usually the first thing we do it is the Warm-up. We do exercises or talk about what we did the previous day and it helps soooo much to be prepared always when the teacher says ' test on ---- tomorrow'. There are two types of exams: quizes and tests. A quiz is shorter, for example if in Latin we are studying x vocab and the passive, after a few days doing that the teacher says ' tomorrow or in 2 days we have a quiz on this' so you do two or three quizes before the test which it has everything you have done and it is more important but as I already said, you are ready to take it with no problem because the quizzes have helped you and in my opinion it is a really good way to learn that works. The classes are active so you better participate every day because you have a participation grade! The classes look so pretty because each teacher decorates the classroom with posters, phrases, pictures..etc about the subject we are taking and we also do fun and unusual stuff. I would write a whole novel talking about the classes but I have to keep things to tell in person hahaha.

People: here there's a bunch of people from different countries and as you know Americans come from other countries such as Italy, Ireland, France..etc.  They are so nice, funny but don't ask where Italy or other European country is because there will be many people that won't know... I know, it is odd..
One thing I noticed it is that they are telling you compliments about your clothes, hair..etc all the time even the teachers. That made my day many times!
Food: Junk, junk and more junk. Are you hungry? take a muffin or a hot dog or a slice of pizza!
They are baking all the time and since I came here I ate fish twice but I ate pizza 124532 times so obviously I think I gained weight, everybody says that's normal... and what about dinner time? 5:00 or sometimes 5:30!
Sport: In the US sports are very important at school, each school has its own football, soccer, softball, lacrosse, tennis, basketball, volleyball, track, baseball, gymnastics and cheerleader team. I joined the tennis team on March and you have to do the tryouts to join it and if you play good you are on the team. We've just finished our league and we are on 2nd place so we are going to playoff! I'm so glad I joined the tennis team because it has been one of the best experiences of my life, we are like a family but it was stressful because we had game Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and we had practice Tuesdays and Thursdays every week. School ends at 1:55 and we had to be on the bus at 2:05 to go to the game. It is hard to have tennis and school at the same time but it is so fun and I will miss it. We still have practice for the playoff.

I can't tell you everything because it is crazy but I wanted to share this to you guys. I know my English is not perfect at all and I might have some mistakes but I'll keep working because it might be 'stupid' for you but English makes me happy! And you all have to work hard with your goals for your future, you can do whatever you want, be whoever you want to be and be happy. I've never thought I could do this because it was hard to think about living without your family, friends etc and here I am happier than ever. I wish you the best with your finals and see you (very) soon!
love,
Aitana
